BEE 4850/5850: Environmental Data Analysis and Simulation

This is the course website for the Spring 2025 edition of BEE 4850/5850, Environmental Data Analysis and Simulation, taught at Cornell University by Vivek Srikrishnan.

Course Description

This class teaches data analysis with an emphasis on conceptual models for scientific insights. In particular, we will:

  • learn how to construct generative probability models for common environmental datasets;
  • develop a toolkit for model calibration, uncertainty quantification, and simulation;
  • use cross-validation and predictive information criteria to evaluate over-fitting and test hypotheses;
  • identify potential confounds and explore implications for data gathering and experimental design.
